Dhankawadi was a tiny village that was absorbed into Pune in 1995 and is now part of the Pune metropolitan area. Since the year 2000, the neighbourhood has been undergoing tremendous growth. It is located on the city's southern outskirts, just north of where the Route 4 bypass departs from old Route 4, about 6.5 kilometres (4.0 miles) south of Pune's city centre. This area is bordered by Bibwewadi, Katraj, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Sai Nagar, and Sahakar Nagar.
